2009 Supplemental (Non-Vacancy Specific) Recruitment Activities Undertaken
1. In 2009 the stations established an internship program which offers local college
students a chance to explore marketing, promotions and newsroom opportunities within the radio broadcasting industry while earning college credits. Responsibilities include prize fulfillment, database marketing, and set-up and breakdown for promotional events. The stations advertise and recruit participants throughout the year and generally host two to six interns per semester.
2. The stations’ staff participated in the following programs, which were
sponsored by local educational institutions, which pertained to career
opportunities in the broadcasting industry.
March 13, 2009 - Berkeley Twp. Elementary - 5th grade
April 22, 2009 - No Limits Career Fair at the American Legion Post # 129 (Toms River)
(H.S. Students & Parents) Sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County
May 15, 2009 - East Dover Career Day
May 19, 2009 - Forked River Elementary School Career Day
June 9, 2009 – Ocean County Vocational-Technical School
(Career Awareness Program)
3. The stations, in conjunction with the Ocean County Community College, co-sponsored
The Millennium Radio Job Fair in Spring 2009. Ashly Emerson and Tom Mongelli were the station staff members with hiring authority, who attended the job fair.
4. The stations, in conjunction with the Monmouth Ocean Development Council attended a job fair on October 20th, 2009 at Brookdale Community College. Tom Mongelli and Elise Perrine, station staff members with hiring authority, attended the job fair.
5. Sponsored The Erik Van Ness Scholarship Award in Recognition of Outstanding
Creativity. In 2002, Erik Van Ness lost his life long battle with cystic fibrosis. In Erik’s
memory, Millennium Radio is proud to sponsor this memorial scholarship in the hope of
fostering the kind of creativity and passion he inspired in us. The yearly scholarship is in
the amount of $2,500.00 and will be awarded to a New Jersey resident enrolled in an
accredited college or university students majoring in broadcasting production or related
courses.
6. The stations, in conjunction with Allies Incorporated hosted a Mentoring Day for students with disabilities on October 21st, National Disability Mentoring Day. There were 2 students who came in and mentored with Lou Russo from the Point and Gregg Pirillo from the Hawk.
